Impact of processed and junk food on children IQ

The brain grows at its fastest rate during the first three years of life, thus the composition of the diet of children before age three is crucial to cognitive development. In fact a study published in the British Medical Journal has studied this relationship on a sample of 14,000 kids and followed them up from age 3 to age 9.

The researchers found that a predominantly processed food diet at the age of 3 was associated with a lower IQ at the age of 8.5, irrespective of whether the diet improved after that age.On the other hand, a healthy diet was associated with a higher IQ at the age of 8.5.

So next time you are thinking of taking your young ones to McDonalds,Dunkin donuts or Pizza hut, think again.
